Mobility on the move in the plant Motorola study finds
Plant Engineering
The study found manufacturers with mobility applications saved a daily average of 42 minutes per employee. The survey results show gains in project interest. In an exclusive interview with editors from Plant Engineering and Control Engineering on June 23 Motorola officials said more than a dozen wireless mobility projects formerly on hold recently were reapproved. The Motorola Enterprise Mobility Manufacturing Barometer surveyed manufacturing IT decision makers in 14 countries across four continents of whom 80% cited that mobility was more important for their organizations today than in 2008. This represents a nine percent increase from previous research indicating that enterprise mobility applications continue to grow in importance as manufacturers look to boost operational efficiencies and increase productivity in the current macro-economic climate. PPG sees significant value in wireless mobilityPPG Industries a coatings and specialty products and services company has been at the forefront of manufacturing mobility technologies and applications Motorola says. PPG uses Motorola’s private commercial radios for improved plant communications and security and empowers workers with Motorola’s MC9000 rugged handheld mobile computers for mobile human-machine interface (HMI) and asset management helping improve operational efficiencies and increase worker productivity Motorola says.

PV Plant Commissioned In France; Sputnik Provides Inverters
Solar Industry
Bresteaux ordered the plant from France-based system supplier Solar Diffusion. The company integrated 1084 polycrystalline solar modules from Biohaus on the farm’s two chicken-stall roofs. France’s current tariff paid for power fed into the grid is 60 euro cents for every kilowatt-hour. To finance and operate the solar plant Bresteaux and his wife founded the company Solar Production Lassay together with Solar Diffusion. Central converters made by Sputnik Engineering AG convert the power of the solar modules into alternating current for the grid.
$625000 land purchase next to wastewater plant K’d
Brainerd Daily Dispatch
The Brainerd City Council in a 4-3 vote approved a recommendation from the Brainerd Public Utilities Commission to purchase 40 acres from Kim Brooks at a cost of $575000 and to allow Brooks to live in her house for four years; and to buy 2. 5 acres from Charles Rothenberger at a cost of $100000. HP printer seeks a new niche
The Columbian
The device which also functions as a fax copier and scanner connects to a user’s Snapfish. com account to allow printing directly from a personal photo database. The biggest challenge to the design concept wasn’t the engineering but "getting people to latch on to the concept and run with it" Hall said. Until now no printer has had the capability to connect to the Internet on its own without a desktop or laptop computer. Joining a wireless worldThe printer signals HP’s entry into the growing market of Web-enabled devices such as mobile phones many of which are already in the third generation of technology. Web-connected printers can now finally connect to a wireless home area network for example so that a user could sit on the sofa and send a signal from their cell phone to print a document in another room. But the innovative features may not be enough to motivate buyers given tough economic conditions.
