It is expected to undergo testing soon before it becomes fully operational later this year. The plant was completed with significant assistance from Russia and took 35 years to build. When the project started in 1974 during the reign of the Shah the German company Siemens was contracted to build two reactors each producing about 1200 megawatts of power. The 1979 Iranian revolution halted the project.

The Global Battery Systems Lab in Warren Mich. will be used to test the lithium ion batteries planned for the Chevy Volt as well as other energy storage systems such as ultracapacitors GM said.
