Calif. considers low-carbon fuel standard
San Jose Mercury News
When all that is factored into the air board’s economic models ethanol produced from Midwest corn in a coal-fired plant actually rates as a dirtier fuel than gasoline. Under that scenario California’s proposed low-carbon fuel standard threatens to shut off one of the ethanol industry’s largest markets. “It’s a total shell game. There’s no way you can prove that growing corn in Iowa has anything to do with destroying the Amazon forest in Brazil” said Tom Koehler a policy adviser at Pacific Ethanol. “You cannot connect the dots with a straight face.

as the future location of its 200 MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant. Assisted by the Arizona Department of Commerce Albiasa’s projects will create up to 2000 construction jobs and more than 100 permanent jobs for Arizonans. The company recently opened a sales marketing and engineering office in Phoenix to serve as its Arizona headquarters.  The Albiasa project uses parabolic CSP technology similar to that at the SEGS I-IV power plants in the California Mojave Desert. Albiasa Solar has worked for years in Spain to improve the parabolic trough technology making overall operation and cost of CSP more efficient. The Albiasa trough collector has been assessed as the most efficient parabolic trough system in the world according to the Arizona Department of Commerce.
