South Korea’s GS Engineering completes $2.1b gas plant in Iran

1b gas plant in Iran GS Engineering & Construction Co. South Korea?s second-largest builder said Sunday it has completed the construction of a $2. 1 billion gas-processing plant in Iran. Located in Assalouyeh southern Iran the facility has a production capacity of 19 million tons of gas per year the builder said. GS led a consortium that included two Iranian companies on the project which began in 2003.

Investors have been waiting for Hitachi to come up with moreconcrete restructuring plans after it shocked the market inJanuary with a 700 billion yen loss warning for the year endingthis month hit by tumbling sales and a strong yen. The loss would be the biggest ever by a Japanesemanufacturer. Takashi Kawamura 69 chairman of both plant engineeringunit Hitachi Plant Technologies (. T) and magnetic tape unitHitachi Maxell (. T) will become Hitachi’s new presidentchief executive and chairman next month.

Ford to cut shifts move production in Spain and Germany

“Ford of Europe must return to sustainable profitability as soon as possible” said John Fleming who heads Ford in the region. “We will do whatever it takes to ensure the continuing viability of our business and further actions can be expected. ” The company said it would drop one of the three shifts at its Spanish plant in Valencia — which builds the Fiesta subcompact and Focus hatchback and employs 5000 — starting May 1. A spokesman said talks with its labor representatives in Spain were ongoing and so Ford could not say exactly how many workers would see their jobs cut. Ford will add a new 2-liter gasoline engine to the site's powertrain production later this year and replace its Focus volume with the next generation of the C-MAX van which it will pull from its Saarlouis factory in Germany. Stimulus Money Puts Clean Coal Projects on a Faster Track

The projects are being watched closely by environmentalists engineers and energy officials. The Duke effort said John Thompson a coal expert at an environmental group the Clean Air Task Force “may be the first commercial carbon sequestration site in the United States. ” If Duke is successful the plant could be capturing about 18 percent of its carbon dioxide emissions within four or five years and an additional 40 percent a few years after that. Carbon dioxide is the main heat-trapping gas linked to global warming. Duke already received some money under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to build a $2. 35 billion coal-burning power plant the largest new construction project in Indiana. The site here is already crawling with workmen and heavy machinery.
