PTSteam plant modifications save UI moneyTHE ASSCIATED PRESSMSCW Idaho — Modifications that made a wood-fired boiler more efficient saved the University of Idaho up to $10000 per day during December’s cold snap officials said. Scott Smith the steam plant’s foreman said the modifications allowed the boiler to produce more steam to heat campus buildings and water. He said the amount of steam has been increased by 50 percent making a big difference at a school that uses steam for about 80 percent of its heating needs during the winter. “They tore that boiler down to its absolute bones” said Joe Kline the director of engineering and utilities at the school. “They didn’t have to push that hard. They just said ‘we can do better.

The firm will also be asked to review water and sewer rates the city currently charges its municipal customers — which includes Muskegon Heights the city of Norton Shores and Fruitport Township. The council will pay Hubbell Roth & Clark Engineering a total of $44906 to conduct the studies. Muskegon Heights owns and operates the water filtration plant but as customers Norton Shores and Fruitport Township have some say in the plant’s operations. Muskegon Heights’ contract with Norton Shores and Fruitport Township requires Muskegon Heights to conduct a reliability study of the water plant every five years City Manager Natasha Henderson said. However the last study was conducted in 1998 city officials said. Muskegon Heights is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with Norton Shores and Fruitport Township over the financial management and operation of the water plant. Norton Shores and Fruitport Township have sued Muskegon Heights accusing the city of misusing water fund dollars.

Toyota to Make Further Cuts to US Production

is making further production cuts in North America as the Japanese auto maker seeks to reduce inventory levels by about half in the second quarter of the year. The company is expanding the number of nonproduction days at each facility in the first quarter by adding to cuts previously announced in January. The nonproduction days vary from plant to plant.

It plans to build environmentally friendly batteries flex cells hybrid upgrades and all-electric vehicle components. says he’s unaware of any current plans to sell the aircraft maker’s Integrated Defense Systems plant in Wichita. Jarrod Bartlett made the statement Thursday after the issue came up in Boeing’s contract talks with the union representing 700 engineers at the Wichita plant. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace has asked Boeing for information on any effort to sell or divest itself of the Wichita plant. Pipeline Project to impact traffic on Lincoln Way in Auburn

Contractor on the job is Doug Veerkamp General Engineering Inc. The work involves a new 36-inch pipeline that will be the main water supply for the Auburn Water Treatment Plant on Ferguson Road. The new line replaces an old pipeline that is leaking and deteriorating. Pipeline construction is anticipated to begin in early February with final paving and cleanup by June 30. The buried pipeline will run about 2500 feet within Lincoln Way from the area of the Sizzler Restaurant below Bowman Road to Foresthill Road and then to the water treatment plant site. PCWA Director of Technical Services Brian Martin said the agency has been contacting residents and businesses in the project area to inform them of the work.
