030 billion euro in total of whichLinde’s share is 350 million euro. The plant will be the largest ofits kind in India and one of the largest ethylene plants in theworld. “This prestigious award is the confirmation of the many strengths ofour Engineering Division in the international plant constructionbusiness” explained Dr Aldo Belloni member of the Executive Boardof Linde AG. “We are a market leader in steam cracker technology andare experienced in the robust execution of projects. We also have aglobal market coverage and a sound financial basis. India is one ofthe most promising markets of the future for both engineeringservices and industrial gases with many significant synergiesbetween the two. The very successful collaboration with SamsungEngineering from South Korea is now approaching its third decade andhas generated business for us in China Thailand Malaysia SaudiArabia and now India.

The Tennessee Valley Authority initially estimated the spill to be approximately 500 million gallons although they have now amended their estimate to 5. 4 million cubic yards of toxic waste which is the equivalent of over one billion gallons. My initial guess that this was the largest unnatural disaster of its kind has certainly given itself a bit of breathing room. A slurry impoundment used to concentrate the waste byproducts that come from washing and burning coal.

officials said they met that goal in November when all 19 of its recent trainees including Martinez and Bury passed Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing exams. The license allows them to take the controls at the plant 50 miles west of downtown Phoenix. “The exam is more stress than they’ve experienced in maybe their whole lives” said John Wood a department leader in the program. “They get to the point where they can handle the stress so they don’t freeze up. Palo Verde is under increased regulatory oversight which both utility officials and regulators partially blame on not keeping enough operators on staff. APS officials said they had been unprepared for the large number of employees who retired in recent years.

The total value of these projects amounts to approximately €1bn ($1. 3bn) and will be booked in the third quarter of 2009. Under the terms of the contract Alstom will design and build Claus-C next to the existing power plant and provide the main components including three GT26 gas turbines along with Topair turbogenerators heat recovery steam generators Alspa distributed control system and the relevant auxiliary equipment. Alstom will also retrofit the existing non-Alstom 640MW steam turbine at Claus-B and will integrate it into the new combined-cycle. The replacement of the old gas-fired boiler of Claus-B by three GT26 gas turbine generator sets with heat recovery steam generators will increase the total output to 1280 MW and reduce C2 emissions by 40 per cent. This repowering configuration is expected to increase the efficiency of the power plant from 39 per cent to above 58 per cent.

There abound a lot of potentials for a number of down-stream and spin-off industrial units using ASCL products. Conversely many of the inputs needed by ASCL could also be manufactured by small scale and medium scale industries. Moreover the Plant’s Engineering Complex could handle heavy engineering works as demonstrated by the jobs done for NNPC and NEPA among other clients of the Complex. In the light of the foregoing analysis about ASCL potentials the recent Steel Summit held in Lagos by the stakeholders leading to far-reaching recommendations is a welcome development. In the communique issued at the Steel Summit which was declared open by the Honourable Minister of Mines & Steel Development the Federal Government was advised to invite the original contractor that designed the Steel Plant that is Messrs TPE to first take a technical audit of the Plant and complete it. Government was also enjoined to put in place infrastructural facilities like railways dredging of River Niger etc to make the Steel Plant function effectively efficiently and profitably. The summit also recommended that Government should operate the Steel Plant when completed for at least 24 months before inviting the private sector for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the operation of the Steel Plant.
