The move means Britain no longer has any stake in the production of its Trident nuclear warheads. pposition MPs have criticised the sale but the Ministry of Defence said Britain’s “sovereign interests” had been protected. The fee paid by California-based Jacobs Engineering has not been disclosed. The sale of British Nuclear Fuels’ stake means Jacobs has control of one third of Aldermaston’s operating company AWE Management. The other two thirds were already in private hands. They are split equally between American defence giant Lockheed Martin and the British plc Serco. Aldermaston is responsible for the production of warheads for the Trident nuclear deterrent programme and its planned replacement.
Addressing Skeptics GM Says Volt “Remains on Schedule”

Earlier this week GM said it was suspending work on the Flint Michigan factory slated to build engines for the Volt. But the automaker said the plug-in hybrid would still be in showrooms on time in late 2010. Lauckner took up the issue of the work stoppage on construction at the engine plant. “It is true that due to our current liquidity situation among other things we have temporarily suspended some construction activities at the new engine plant in Flint” he said. “This has no impact on our production timing for the Volt or the Chevy Cruze. Moreover our global manufacturing process is flexible enough to construct this plant within a year and the planning activities that require less cash up front are continuing in Flint. “I realize some of you will remain skeptical of the Volt program and its timing that’s just human nature: but I ask you to reserve judgment until 2010.

Dryden hires firm to design sewage plant

He said the system is overloaded with peak flows six times higher than the average flows a discrepancy that limits the range of technologies that can be used to treat the water. He added that it is periodically necessary to bypass one or more processes at the plant to handle the flows. Tully firm PLS Engineering was hired to initiate studies into upgrades at the plant and submitted initial design plans which the DEC approved. The village later dropped the firm however and put the contract back out to bid selecting MRB to re-evaluate the plans in ctober. MRB engineer Jimmie Joe Carl said the new plant would be designed to handle at least 600000 gallons of sewage a day. He said the site looked large enough to handle the flow and that he would also take into account possible expansion opportunities and growth forecasts for at least the next 10-20 years. He also said he will be as considerate as possible to the needs of the plant operators so they can continue to use parts of the existing plant during the year-long construction phasing the new equipment in gradually rather than trying to decommission the plant and build on its footprint.
