While 3D printers have been available commercially for about 25 years RepRap is the first that can essentially print itself. The RepRap research and development project was conceived and is directed by Dr Adrian Bowyer a senior lecturer in engineering in the Faculty of Engineering & Design at the University of Bath UK. Dr Bowyer said that: “These days most people in the developed world run a professional-quality print works photographic lab and CD-pressing plant in their own house all courtesy of their home PC. Why shouldn’t they also run their own desktop factory capable of making many of the things they presently buy in shops too?“The possibilities are endless. Now people can make exactly what they want. If the design of an existing object does not quite suit their needs they can easily redesign it on their PC and print that out instead of making do with a mass-produced second-best design from the shops. They can also print out extra RepRap printers to give to their friends… Why shouldn’t they also run their own desktop factory capable of making many of the things they presently buy in shops too?“The possibilities are endless. ‘Fight has just begun’ CAW says

" "Clearly understand what direction we’re heading in" warned Chris Buckley president of Canadian Auto Workers Local 222. "I cannot be more sincere ? this fight has just begun. " The union blockaded GM’s Canadian headquarters in east Oshawa early Wednesday and the crowd swelled to more than 400 at one point yesterday afternoon after a shift change at nearby assembly plants. "It’s up to General Motors how long this protest continues and it’s up to General Motors to what degree we escalate this protest" Buckley told the crowd… "Most GM headquarters employees worked from home yesterday because of the blockade. A company spokesperson could not be reached for comment on the impact of the demonstrations. At Queen’s Park the New Democrats hammered the government again over $175 million in assistance to GM saying some of the money was used for engineering research on a prototype of a new hybrid pickup truck that won’t even be built in Oshawa. "The McGuinty government didn’t get any job or product guarantees" NDP Leader Howard Hampton charged. "How can any government be so incompetent?"Economic Development and Trade Minister Sandra Pupatello said the hybrid project was not tied to loans but acknowledged "Yes it is very difficult to watch that. "She took a shot at federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty who two days ago touted a $250 million fund that GM could tap for help. "To date the criteria have not been posted" she told reporters.
