Honda adding high-tech engineering facility at Alabama plant

The project scheduled to be completed this summer willbe home to a branch of Honda Engineering North America Inc. also known as EGA which designs develops and manufacturesspecialized production and tooling equipment. Honda has not announced any new jobs tied to the facility. EGA has employees based at all of Honda’s NorthAmerican auto plants including Lincoln… The facility will allow EGA to increase its capability formanufacturing powertrain dies which are used in high- andlow-pressure casting operations. High-pressure casting formscylinder blocks for V-6 engines and low-pressure castingforms the engine cylinder heads. Honda’s Alabama plant is the sole global source ofthe Pilot sport utility the Odyssey minivan and the V-6engines that power them. Next year the plant will add theRidgeline pickup to its assembly lines. 4 billion plant employs more than 4500 people andhas an annual production capacity that tops 300000vehicles. Since October 2006 Honda has announced plans for nearly$100 million in additional construction and investment atLincoln.

Bombay Dyeing sells DMT plant to Gujarat co

The NusliWadia-controlled Bombay Dyeing has been the largest maker of DMT a keyingredient in the manufacture of polyester and a major supplier to varioustextile firms. The company had the capacity to manufacture 165000 tonnes of DMTat its Patalganga unit. DMT is used as a raw material for making polyesterfibre film filament and yarn and engineering plastics. An e-mail query sent toBombay Dyeing elicited noresponse. In a recentadvertisement a Gujarat-based trading company Laxmiraj said it had bought theplant from Bombay Dyeing for an undisclosed amount. A senior executive withLaxmiraj Bhavesh Jain confirmed the development and said the company woulddismantle the DMT plant.
