A year later and the 500000th BMW left the assembly line. On February 28 2006 the first millionth vehicle was produced within the halls of the Spartanburg factory just 12 years after it formally commenced operations. When you consider that the vehicles made in this plant are precision-engineering cars and not mass-market ones these figures become all the more impressive. Our tour began with a quick stopover at the Zentrum the facility’s visitors center that houses a souvenir shop and a BMW heritage museum. If you’re a huge BMW fan you’d be delighted to check out the classic Isettas first before putting on those safety goggles for the factory tour. It’s always nice to be reminded of the old days of the automobile before stepping into the world of high-tech car-makingwhich is exactly what happens inside BMW Manufacturing Company the official name of this Spartanburg facility. Believe it or not the X5 and X6 body shop is 100-percent automated.
