It was pretty impressive. The plant is huge for one thing. But even more striking especially considering the scale is that each activity has been researched planned and executed down to the minute and the inch or even the second and the millimeter. Parts and people are in the right place at the right time… It’s cool to see finished cars being driven for the very first time especially when you remember those rolls of steel you saw at the beginning. – In the small world department as I was waiting for the tour to begin up walks Ellen Redding director of communications for our Henderson County school system. Her son David is a University of Kentucky mechanical engineering student and is working this semester at Toyota as part of his course of study. It must be a perfect opportunity for a mechanical engineer in training. The place is jam packed with mechanicals and has been engineered to the extreme. —I’ve gotten some great contributions in response to last week’s column about the dumb little things I do. You can still share your innocent little mental lapses with everybody and I’ll roll them into a future column.

With service costs ballooning more than expected the company has decided to set aside reserves to offset losses expected over the next 17 years. As a result it may lower its group net profit forecast of 320 billion yen this fiscal year the report said.
