Daniel Gaa vice president of the Pasadena Calif. -based company’s local operation said the 34-year-old landmark plant is outdated. “It needs to be modernized” Gaa said… The building that will replace the existing 26-story cube will be equipped with cranes that can lift up to 60 tons ? three times what the current equipment can handle. The company does not know yet when the replacement structure will be completed. Engineers and workers at the Cooper River site design the modular units and build them installing major components such as drywall electrical systems and air-conditioning units as well as smaller details such as water fountains and exit signs. Buyers of the portable processing plants include the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. But Jacobs has had its eye on the oil refinery market in the decade since it relocated to Berkeley County from rangeburg. The study covers all engineering issues relevant to the refurbishment including plant design facilities optimization environmental examination and all necessary site data and surveys. It is expected that this study will be complete by July 2008. The commencement of the study follows the execution by the KPC of a formal Letter of Interest with the Government of Pakistan Ministry of Water and Power (Private Power Infrastructure Board) for the refurbishment of the power station. 6 billion coal-fired power plant don’t represent southwest Virginia residents state regulators were told Monday night. Andrew Anunson a Virginia Tech engineering graduate who lives in Wise County where the plant would be built told Virginia Department of Environmental Quality staff members at a public hearing that he hadn’t talked to anyone in the county who opposed the plant. “We need tax dollars now” said Anunson citing the poor condition of the county’s schools. He and other speakers referred to opponents who fear harm to the environment and citizens’ health as outsiders who don’t understand the economically depressed region. “The environment is best protected when the economy is strong” said Skip Skinner Wise County administrator. Mike Quillen head of mining company Alpha Natural Resources said he was speaking on behalf of miners who were among some 400 people packed into a high school auditorium.

Hillary Clinton adopted a more subdued campaign approach yesterday reaching out to workers at a. Clinton’s visit to the. transmission plant included a candid discussion about the economy at a time when the issue has taken center stage in the election but it capped an abridged and sometimes troubled campaign that unfolded here as… Mikulski Clinton walked through the facility and spoke with workers before peering under the hood of a shiny black Chevrolet hybrid parked on the plant floor. She addressed about two dozen employees fielding questions about health care the auto market and the war in Iraq. Jamal Starr a 32-year-old industrial engineer noted that Internet technology firms and a booming housing market had lifted the economy from its depths in the past. He asked Clinton which industries she believed would jerk the country out of its current sluggishness this time. “I think everybody would agree that right now we’re either heading for or we’re currently in a recession” Starr said. Clinton touted her plan to create environmental jobs in the so-called green collar sector. She said creating a greater market for hybrid vehicles would boost the number of jobs at auto plants such as the one in White Marsh.
