He said the water poured Monday helped form a bit of a crust on the sugar but that the fire suppression team was needed to put the blaze out completely. About 12 percent of the refinery on a 160-acre site on the river upstream from Savannah was destroyed company spokesman Steve Behm said. February 13 2008 A $7. 3 million contract to design a new wastewater treatment plant for the city’s Northside may be the action needed to stop a civil rights complaint by the plant’s neighbors. The contract approved by City Council on Tuesday hires Carollo Engineers of Phoenix with local firm LNV Engineering to design the specifics to build a new plant on the site of the existing Broadway Wastewater Treatment Plant which was built in 1936 and is in major need of repair. After the city considered other Northside locations for the new plant residents of the Hillcrest neighborhood in April filed a federal civil rights complaint against the city saying the sites discriminate against the neighborhood’s predominantly black residents. The complaint asked for the withholding of federal funds. Errol Summerlin an attorney representing the neighbors suggested the complaint could be resolved if the city put its commitment to building at the existing location in writing and filed it with the Environmental Protection Agency which is reviewing the complaint.

Route 224 on the Mahoning River for construction of a sewer plant. They agreed at their Tuesday meeting to pay owner Paul Siegel $10000 per acre or $70000 the price the land was recently appraised at by a Beaver Falls agency. Supervisor Gary Pezzuolo said plans for the sewage plant are expected to be completed at the end of the month. They then go to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for review before plant construction is put out for bid. The bid is expected to be awarded in May with construction anticipated to begin in June. Construction is expected to take 12 to 18 months. The planned Edinburg-Hillsville sanitary sewer line is proposed to serve 591 homes as well as the Centaur racetrack being planned for the north part of the township… Route 224 bridge is closed for replacement. Supervisors also: UAgreed to ask RAR Engineering the township?s engineer to review the intersection of Churchill and Main Streets where long trucks are having difficulty making the turn. U Approved paying $200 to $400 for an external hard drive so the township can use geographic information system mapping of the township which is available through the county. U Adopted new rules and regulations for holding tanks for residential and commercial use as required by the DEP. A schedule of fees is available at township offices.
