Sugar plant powers up
indiacar.net – Nov 24, 2007
The plant is the first of its kind in the UK and produces bioethanol from locally grown sugar beet. An annual production capacity of 70 million litres will come from 110000 tonnes of sugar that is surplus to the needs of the food market. n declaring the plant open Lord Rooker said: “These production facilities represent the marrying-up of British Agriculture and British Engineering Technology. Bioethanol is a carbon-neutral fuel source with the potential to reduce C2 emissions by 50-70% compared to regular unleaded petrol. In March 2008 the Government will introduce the Renewable Transport Fuel bligation (RTF) which states that 5% of all fuel to be sold on forecourts must be from renewable sources by 2010.
REUTEMAN: Colorado rides on Fat Tire to beer heights
Rocky Mountain News – Nov 24, 2007
Although New Belgium brews seven other brands Fat Tire easily comprises two-thirds of the company’s sales several employees told me. The smooth amber ale seems to be on tap in most Colorado bars and New Belgium now sells in 16 other states. A new bottling plant opened in June on the company’s 55 acres allowing 700 bottles per minute up from 300 in the old plant. The 437000 barrels of beer they brewed last year is still a drop in the keg compared with the Anheuser-Busch plant in nearby Wellington which pumped out 8 million barrels. But New Belgium’s position atop the state’s 92 other craft brewers is one of the reasons Colorado is the nation’s top beer-producing state. According to the Washington D… But New Belgium’s success is important not just for the popular beer it makes. Its just as much an affirmation of the workplace culture fostered by founder Jeff Lebesch and the environmental stewardship exhibited in nearly every aspect of the brewery. In the late 1980s Lebesch jettisoned a career as an electrical engineer to pursue a dream of making beer. It was a dream fostered by a bike trip through Belgium and his encounters with some of the folks who make the 600 brands of beer that originate in the tiny European nation. And his successful pursuit of that dream has yielded a “follow-your-fancy” philosophy Lebesch instills in his employees. Check out followyourfolly. com and you’ll see what I mean.
A source of creative energy we’re fools not to tap
Globe and Mail – Nov 24, 2007
“What plant did you work at?”"Plant?” came his reply. “I didn’t work in a factory — I’m a mechanical engineer and I worked on new product development. This man had quit a high-paying job in a good company so he could cut people’s hair. He had left the creative class because it wasn’t creative enough for him and had gone into a service industry to express his creativity.
Islandwide outages hit Saipan
Saipan Tribune – Nov 24, 2007
There were also outages at Feeder 4 and Feeder 7 during the same time (8:30am to 10:30am) CUC spokesperson Pamela Mathis told Saipan Tribune. Affected areas include Capital Hill to Kagman 1 2 and 3 and areas in Tanapag to Marpi. “Power Plant 4 could not be used because the power that is made or produced at Power Plant 4 comes out through the same grid that the linemen were working on” Mathis said. This caused an energy shortage so CUC had to turn off Feeders 4 and 7 at the same time when the repair was being conducted. Mathis said they pushed ahead with the rolling blackouts schedule that was supposed to be done on the weekend because power unit 3 was down Wednesday night. Part of the weekend schedule was implemented Thursday due to a spike in customer demand. “But not the entire schedule… Mathis said each water well has to be reset individually. There was also a scheduled outage from 5pm to 11pm last night in Chalan Kanoa Capital Hill Talafofo As Teo Papago whole Kagman Lower Base Tanapag Achugao San Roque As Matuis and Marpi. With respect to power plant 3 Mathis said they plan to make the repairs last night. She said another base load generator was also set for repair last night Friday. “We are trying to finish all these by Monday because we are going to have higher demands come Monday. The schools are back in session and you’ve got Christmas demands coming on line” she added.

Khan’s activities for about 30 years. In 1979 the Washington Post named him as the Pakistani engineer who had left his position at the uranium enrichment centrifuge facility at Almelo Netherlands four years earlier with "lists of subcontractors and probably blueprints for the plant. To evade the existing system of controls on the sale of nuclear weapons-related technology Pakistan established a complex multinational effort to purchase components for its enrichment plant from European and U. companies–something the international community was aware of even in the late 1970s… Khan’s activities for about 30 years.
