Canadian textile firm sows seeds to revive Quaker plant
Providence Journal – Oct 4, 2007
When Victor bought Quaker’s real estate and equipment it said it would probably hire only 100 employees. Yesterday however the company said it could employ as many as 500 people by 2009. It has already begun hiring engineering and manufacturing staff. “They’re ready to get going right away” said Joseph Viana director of operations at the Bristol County Career Centers which has assisted former Quaker employees. Victor a privately held company based in Quebec has not disclosed the details of its acquisition of Quaker. It bought Quaker’s assets from Boston-based Gordon Bros. Group which had acquired Quaker’s inventory machinery intellectual property and real estate for $27 million after Quaker filed for bankruptcy last month… Any hiring at all by Victor is seen as a boon for Fall River which has suffered from a steady decline in its manufacturing base. Quaker blamed pressure from low-cost imports for its downfall and it was not clear that its machinery would ever hum again. Now Victor says production at the Fall River plant could resume this month. “We intend to invest in research and development” Atkins said yesterday. “We intend to run a very successful business that’s going to serve all segments of the contract furniture and upholstery business.

The Engineering Centre employs an environmentally-friendly turbo freezer that uses water as coolant for the air conditioning system a first in Japan. With the all-new turbo-freezer system Nissan will collect data to support further improvements to the system for wider industrial-scale applications. ther ?eco-technologies? incorporated into the design of the Engineering Centre include use of crystal liquid ice thermal storage and heat recovery system (CLIS-HR) eco-glass and a rain-water and waste-water heat recycling system to reduce energy consumption and C2 emissions. Nissan has invested 90 billion yen ($783million) to boost and strengthen its R&D facilities. The Engineering Centre is yet another significant long-term investment by Nissan. ther recent investments include NATC (Nissan Advanced Technical Centre) completed in May the new Design Centre in September and the on-going refurbishment of the Powertrain Engineering Centre at NTC. Goldbelt Receives Final Feasibility Study for Inata Project
Maketwire – Maketwire (Communiqués de presse) – Oct 4, 2007
George rr and Associates of Perth Australia provided geotechnical design. relogy Pty Ltd of Perth Australia completed all mine design costing and reserves estimation. Engineering and design for the tailings dam water dam and other mine infrastructure was carried out by AMEC Kent England. Metallurgical test work was carried out by AMMTEC of Perth Australia. The Environmental Impact Study (“EIS”) was prepared by Socrege of uagadougou Burkina Faso. GBM was responsible for the management of the feasibility study development of the process flowsheet process engineering design and the compilation of the report. ResourcesMineral Resource Statement 1 July 2007 at a cut-off of 0… Leach kinetics demonstrated that the ore was relatively insensitive to grind size and good recoveries were obtained at a grind of 80% passing 106µm. A conservative approach was employed in the process design and a grind of 80% passing 75µm was selected. ProcessingIn 2006 Goldbelt purchased the Brocks Creek process plant located in the Northern Territory Australia. The cost including dismantling and refurbishment of critical components is $4200000. The dismantling of the plant is now complete and refurbishment will be undertaken before the plant is shipped directly to Ghana for onward road transportation to mine site. The purchase of this plant will minimize lead times on major equipment and mitigate against cost overruns. The major equipment to be used from the Brocks Creek plant are the 48″ x 42″ double-toggle jaw crusher the 20′ x 11′ SAG and 13′ x 16′ ball mills conveyors feeders the classification and gravity circuits the elution and reagent mixing and storage facilities and spare parts and equipment.
