My week: Christian Hulme Royal Engineer captain on flood rescue duty…
Independent – Jul 28, 2007
I’m impressed by the way that the civilian authorities and the Army are working together. The community spirit is fantastic. Throughout the day I travel back and forth from the Mythe water plant to the Walham power station to make sure both these essential sites are looked after. This afternoon the Prime Minister visits the Walham power station to thank everyone for the work they have done. ThursdayIt’s still early this morning when my troops start to strip the temporary flood barrier at the power station. I’m finally starting to receive the material to start building the permanent flood barrier. I also need to find out if it is feasible to build this wall.

This two-colored lotus was the first reported case of its kind at the West Lake according to Sun Jian an official from the lake water area administration. “It may have been caused by some sort of nature-induced generic transformations” said Wei Ya a plant genetic engineering researcher at the Fudan University’s School of Life Sciences. Factors such as ultraviolet rays chemicals or extreme weather could trigger generic transformations in plants Wei said. “The possibility of (natural generic transformation) exists but it is very rare” the researcher said. Blossoming lotuses are a famous attraction of the West Lake more than 87000 square meters of which is covered by the flower. Wastewater complaint spurs EPA investigation
Wooster Daily Record – Jul 28, 2007
He took issue with the complaint the county had not spent enough on the SEP. Without specific figures at his immediate disposal county environmental manager Jerry Galbraith said the county had spent more than the $300000 required by EPA. “ne of the projects at the Winesburg plant alone was over $400000 but like I said without being in the office I really don’t want to guess” Galbraith said. He also said he believed EPA’s charge the county’s six plants are out of compliance is not warranted. “I guess the thing about the charges they are bringing saying the plants are not in compliance there are violations with our plants on some of the testing but we believe we are meeting compliance by 90 percent” Galbraith said. “We feel that we have an excellent record as far as the compliance schedule. He echoed Hall in saying as he sees it the biggest issue with the county’s wastewater woes stem from the Walnut Creek plant… n the heels of the county being denied a request for state economic development funds earlier in the year the commissioners on Thursday met with officials from the United States Department of Agriculture with the goal of putting together a funding strategy to help the plant move forward more quickly than the two- to three-year timeline the commissioners have previously stated. Galbraith said progress is being made on paper by the county engineer. “We are already in the design phase. We may not be breaking ground but we already have half of the sewer lines ready to go. Hall said the county has filed an appeal and a request for an extension. A hearing is scheduled in Holmes County Common Pleas Court on Sept.
