Ragot who took over as president and CE on May 1 said last week during a meeting with The Tribune-Democrat’s editorial board that he hasn’t had discussions with the local union concerning contract talks or the plant’s future. Ragot succeeded John Carroll who retired at the end of April. Between 175 and 200 unionized employees now work at FreightCar’s Johnstown plant. A committee has been appointed to examine the company’s entire manufacturing footprint including the facility in Franklin Borough… But he didn’t blame that entirely on labor costs saying there are potential process improvements that could save money at the local plant. Concerning the roughly 50 non-production jobs the company has at it Johns Street offices Ragot said he is satisfied with results produced by the unit. The employees housed at the facility generally are in the fields of engineering sales and administration. “When I look at our Johnstown presence I don’t just look at who we have on the shop floor but the people in this building as well” Ragot said. “The talent we have here is very good. From engineers to accountants the future is very bright here because they offer a lot of value to the company. ”Ragot also spoke broadly about his plans for the business.

Mark Fields Ford’s president of the Americas said there is evidence the carmaker’s industry position is stabilizing citing Ford’s market share of slightly more than 13 percent for the past six to nine months. Ford has begun a marketing blitz for the Taurus that it hopes will boost sales touting safety and affordability. The company calls it the safest full-size car in America pointing to recent industry awards and engineering improvements aimed at consumers who place a higher priority on safety than in the past. -based company announced in February that it would revive the Taurus which was one of its top brands in the 1980s and ’90s before it faded into oblivion and make it exclusively at its plant on the far south side of Chicago. A renamed and improved version of Ford’s slow-selling Five Hundred sedan the 2008 Taurus is starting to hit dealer showrooms. “We haven’t given any projections but I think this vehicle’s going to surprise a lot of people” Fields said.
