announced Tuesday that it will build a plant in Batesville Miss. to manufacture composite-material parts for jet engines. All Rights Reserved… Haley Barbour joined General Electric Aviationpresident and CE Scott Donnelly for the announcement at a newsconference at the Batesville Civic Center. Barbour and the company announced nearly a year ago that GE waslooking for a plant site in Mississippi. GE has worked with Mississippi State University’s College ofEngineering on fabricating carbon fiber and epoxy resin compositecomponents called “fan platforms” which are installed between thefront fan blades of GE’s most powerful commercial jet engines. MSU willcontinue to fabricate composite components until the new facility isoperational officials said. The Batesville plant will produce composite fan blade platforms forthe new GEnx and GE 90 engines. The GEnx engines will enter service in2008 on the Boeing 777. The plant also is expected to produce compositecomponents for GE military engines.
