“Even during the slumps later on we thought we were all in it together. That is why people still get together at these reunions. ” More than 30 years ago Digital selected the Springs for the plant because the designer of its first disk drive was from Boulder. Company officials wanted the plant to be near his research operation but far enough away that competitor Storage Technology Corp. wouldn’t hire away employees said Tom Burniece the plant’s engineering manager. Nelson Diaz one of Digital’s first employees in the Springs said the company built its permanent manufacturing plant in a valley of the Rockrimmon subdivision because it promised neighbors that lights from the plant couldn’t be seen from the surrounding neighborhood. “Before the plant was built we would go four-wheeling there and chase coyotes” Diaz said… ” More than 30 years ago Digital selected the Springs for the plant because the designer of its first disk drive was from Boulder. German Workers Stage Warning Strikes
BusinessWeek – Apr 30, 2007
5 percent higher pay. Further talks are due on Thursday. The country’s economic recovery has fuelled demands for a big pay rise after… 5 percent more pay for 3. 4 million manufacturing workers. At least 600 workers at a van assembly plant of DaimlerChrysler in Düsseldorf northwestern Germany downed tools during the night shift on Sunday and a further 800 stopped work at another plant of the German auto manufacturer a spokesman for the IG Metall engineering union said. In Berlin workers at a Gillette razor blade factory walked off their jobs and demonstrated outside the plant waving flags blowing whistles and holding banners demanding that employers increase their offer of a 3 percent increase — made up of a formal wage rise of 2. 5 percent and a half-percent ‘economy bonus’ as a one-off payment. IG Metall says its pay claim is justified by the nation’s economic recovery after years of stagnation with growth fuelled by soaring global demand for goods Germany specializes in such as cars chemicals and industrial equipment. A union leader insisted employers were to blame for the strikes and warned that they would escalate unless a deal was reached.

They finally air-conditioned those buildings when they found out they had to let us off at 1 or 2 o’clock every day during the summer. “Years later working at the Dalecarlia plant Monch shifted to drawing with ink on Mylar a plastic sheet. Now the design team uses computer software to make drawings and store them on discs but Monch prefers to start his designs with a ruler and pencil at a drafting table before entering his drawings into the computers. Monch retires as a civil engineer technician holding the senior technician position on the aqueduct’s design team. In this job he usually oversaw junior technicians who do the initial field work on new projects. During the design phase he developed construction drawings showing the various elevations sections and building requirements.

The emerald green and sheep-nibbled shelf on which it stands is set so high on its eponymous fellside that when bombers crashed into Skiddaw during the war years Skiddaw House was near the smoking craters. It was from here they brought down the dead by horse-drawn sled. In Grasmere the birth certificate of Billy Robinson a retired quarry plant engineer states he was born here. He remembers lads at Bassenthwaite village school swapping scraps of metaland Perspex that folk had retrieved from the wrecks. Picture this former shooting lodge this wonderful April and such a grim past might seem hard to conceive. For Skiddaw House has reason to celebrate. Set amid purple-gowned moors and chattering ghylls the House has opened up again as a bunkhouse intended to be within the network of YHA (England and Wales) enterprise operation.
